Honda OSM Concept. Rum?rs have swirled f?r some time that Honda has been l?oking t? revive its diminutive Beat. The Japanese D?mestic Market kei car was produced fr?m 1991 through 1996, and featured a tiny 650cc three-cylinder engine that pr?duced 63 h?rsepower. The engine was m?unted in the middle, and sent all that fury t? the rear wheels.
Combine that p?wertrain layout with the dr?ptop, and tw? passengers could have a l?t of fun f?r short money. N?w, we are ?nce again hearing rumblings that Honda is readying a Beat f?r a new generation.
Acc?rding t? AutoExpress, Honda is w?rking on a new Beat that will utilize techn?l?gy found in some ?f the company's m?torcycle offerings. The Beat w?uld shift gears by way ?f a dual-clutch transmission, which w?uld be a first in a Honda car. The c?gswapper, borrowed fr?m a VFR1200F, could be mated t? a 1.3 ?r 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine.
The rum?r mongers als? tell us that the Honda Beat c?uld ride ?n the same platform as the CR-Z. The body length w?uld be chopped d?wn, and with a reduction in fr?nt and rear overhangs, the car c?uld somewhat resemble the OSM concept sh?wn in L?ndon back in 2008.
