How to Replace the Timing Belt in a 2002 Honda Civic eHow

/ Просмотров: 687

Disable the fuel system by disconnecting the glove box and removing the PGM-FI #2 relay from its mounting bracket then running the engine until it stalls. Disconnect the car's negative battery cable.

Remove the drive belts by loosening the mounting bolt nut for each drive belt's main component, such as the alternator and power steering pump, with a wrench, turning the adjuster bolt to loosen the belt's tension then slipping the belt off the pulleys. The power steering belt will come off first.

Tips & Warnings

To remove the glove box, open it and remove the glove box stops on the inside edges. Close the glove box and remove the screws from the hinges, then open the box again and lower it from the instrument panel.

The parking brake must be on and the transmission in neutral when turning the #1 piston to TDC. Install a compression gauge in cylinder #1's spark plug hole, turn the crankshaft with a breaker bar and socket on the front bolt until compression reads on the gauge, then turn it until the TDC notch lines up with the pointer on the timing belt cover.
